Q. Are there any options on the types of window replacement method I can choose?
A. There are two basic types of window replacement options. Both methods are designed for maximum efficiency and minimal disruption to your home, but your best option will depend on the age and style of your home.

Option 1: Insert Replacement
This replacement method is used when your existing window frames are in good condition, but the sashes need replacement. Our frame-in-frame insert design is installed into your existing window frame with no disruption to existing trim, interior walls, or exterior siding. This method is fast, efficient, more economical, and there is no finishing required on your part.

Option 2: Full-frame Replacement
This installation method is appropriate when your entire window has deteriorated and needs replacement or if you are looking for a totally new window size, style, or appearance. With full-frame replacement, the entire window (sash, frame and casing) is removed and replaced.

Q. Will the interior decor and exterior of my home be affected by the replacement process?
A. The amount of disruption to your home's exterior and interior decor will depend on the type of window replacement process you choose. If you choose an insert window, these products can be installed with little or no disruption to the interior trim or exterior of your home. If using full frame products for your project, interior and exterior window millwork will need to be removed so that the frame of the existing window can be removed before the new window is installed.

Q. Are Marvin products energy efficient?
A. Yes, Marvin offers a wide array of energy-efficiency options. You can tailor your choices to best suit your climate. Marvin windows and doors are available with a choice of special glass coatings, insulating gases and other options that will ensure maximum energy efficiency for your project. Virtually all Marvin products meet ENERGY STAR standards.

Q. Do Hastings’ Retailers install windows and doors?
A. Many of our retailers are authorized to install the products, with trained installation experts on their staffs. The retailers who do not have installation personnel on staff can recommend qualified contractors in your area.

Q. I need a unique size or special shape window. Does the Marvin carry special shapes and sizes?
A. Yes. Marvin specializes in special shapes and custom windows.  Your Retailer will take detailed measurements to ensure that the new window is an exact match to the existing window.

Q. I own an historic home. Can Marvin meet historic requirements?
A. Yes. Marvin can produce historically accurate windows. Marvin offers traditional wood construction and authentic, single-glaze divided-lite options, as well as custom sizing, casing and glass options.
As the focus on energy efficiency has increased, many historic preservation committees will also consider Marvin's aluminum clad products with insulating glass. Marvin's simulated divided lites and ability to extrude historically accurate window profiles and casings offer historic home owners an energy efficient, low maintenance choice.

Q. How much will my new windows and doors cost?
A. A Marvin retailer can provide you with an accurate estimate for your windows. The entire cost of window replacement is dependent upon factors such as:

  • The window replacement process—insert replacement or full frame replacement
  • The number and type of windows and doors required
  • Product options selected, such as casing or grilles
  • Labor to install
  • A Hastings Retailer can work with you on a complete project estimate.

Q. I’m having a problem with my window or door.  Who can I contact to fix it?
A. Contact your Retailer and they can check your warranty and assist with any repairs.
