7 Tide Trend Alert: Black is the New White

New Englanders have long turned to white painted wood as their go-to finish to frame windows and doors. In James L. From black-interior windows to ebony-hued kitchen islands, New England designers are embracing contrast. While we don’t see serene monochromatic spaces or white-on-white kitchens falling out of favor with New England designers and homeowners any time soon, we have noticed the increased use of color in recent months. In many cases, it isn’t something as subtle as introducing throw pillows or bed linens in the same color as the room’s overall décor. Permanent elements, such as kitchen cabinetry, islands and windows in saturated tones that are in sharp contrast to the wall color and flooring, are proving surprisingly popular. According to

When working with an awkward layout, adding windows can turn wasted space into a user-friendly focal point. With a housing market that’s now returned to its robust, pre-recession status and, “…the ever-presence of multiple-offer situations and bidding wars,” according to a recent article on BostonHerald.com, many homeowners are choosing to upgrade their existing home with extensive renovations rather than join the buying frenzy.  If one of a homeowner’s primary goals in remodeling is creating more space, but lot size or conservation restrictions prohibit an addition, architects and designers need to come up with solutions that meet their client’s needs while
